Chandigarh: A fraudster has been arrested by the cyber crime investigation cell of the UT police for allegedly withdrawing Rs20,000 from a city resident’s bank account through card cloning. The police said the suspect, Sandeep Kumar (33), a resident of Sirsa, managed to clone an ATM card. Later, the money was withdrawn from an ATM in Ropar. A case was registered by the police in May last year. The complaint was investigated by the cyber cell and the suspect nabbed from Sirsa on January 16. TNS

Bag with Rs4.07L stolen from car

Chandigarh: In yet another incident, an unknown person stole a bag containing Rs4.07 lakh from a car parked at Mani Majra. Complainant Parmod Bansal, a resident of Sector 4, Panchkula, reported that he had parked his car near a school at Gobindpura. The suspect broke a windowpane of the car on the left side and stole the cash. The police have registered a case at the Mani Majra police station. There have been several similar incidents of cash and valuables being stolen from cars after breaking the windowpanes in the recent past. The police have failed to nab the suspects. TNS

Woman held for stealing purse

Chandigarh: A 62-year-old woman has been arrested for stealing a purse from Sadar Bazar, Sector 19. The complainant, a resident of Sector 56, reported that her purse containing Rs6,440 and documents was stolen during her visit to the market. Later, a woman of Rajasthan was arrested. A case has been registered at the Sector 19 police station. TNS

Teachers’ training programme

Chandigarh: National pharmacy teachers training programme started at Panjab University (PU) on Monday. The one-week web faculty training school under the initiative of the UGC Networking Resource Centre (UGC-NRC), on “New Era Technologies in Formulation Design Space” is being hosted via CiscoWebEx at the University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS). As many as 68 selected pharma faculty and researchers from various colleges and universities of 21 states of India and one from abroad are participating in the course. TNS
