Found with stolen car parts, two get 1-year jail
A local court has sentenced Rajbir Singh and Jagsir Singh of Ferozepur district to one year of rigorous imprisonment for possessing dismantled pieces of a stolen car. The police had registered the case on the complaint of Suleman of Mani Majra.
In the complaint he had said that on October 6, 2023, he had parked his car at Nagla Basti. When he came back it was not there. Prosecution claimed that during investigation Rajbir, who was already in police custody in another case, confessed that he sold the car to Jagsir, who dismantled and sold its parts.
Counsel of the accused argued that the accused were innocent and had been falsely implicated in the case. Besides, no independent witnesses joined at the time of the recovery of the parts of the car.
After hearing the arguments the court said that complainant identified his dismantled car. In his cross-examination he admitted that the theft did not take place in his presence and he never saw the accused persons. However, the fact of recovery of the dismantled parts of the car and the number plate had been established.
The court said due to this the accused were convicted for the offences punishable under Section 411of the Indian Penal Code and sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for one year.
