Five children among 11 test +ve for Covid in Mohali district

Eleven new Covid-19 cases were reported from the district today, taking its tally to 160. Eight persons who contracted the virus are residents of densely populated Mubarakpur Camp near Dera Bassi. They include three women, aged 47, 35 and 25, and five children, aged 4, 8, 7, 12 and 14.
Civil Surgeon Manjit Singh, accompanied by Deputy Medical Commissioner Daljeet Singh and other doctors, rushed to Mubarakpur Camp to take stock of the situation. The Civil Surgeon said all these patients were close contacts of a 43-year-old man who had returned from Delhi on May 24 and tested positive for the virus.
Two men, aged 41 and 53, and a 23-year-old youth from Baltana, Zirakpur, have also contracted the virus. All patients have been admitted to the Covid Care Centre at Gian Sagar Hospital in Banur.
The Civil Surgeon said they had collected the samples of 46 suspects from Mubarakpur on Friday. Of them, eight persons tested positive for the virus, while reports of others came negative. They also collected 20 samples today, he added. Manjit Singh said the affected area had been cordoned off. People living in the vicinity had been directed to stay indoors.
The total number of active cases in the district are 40. While 117 patients have recovered, three died of Covid. Warning the residents of the district, the Civil Surgeon said the threat of Covid was still prevalant and people should be more vigilant.
