The festival of Dasehra was celebrated with fervour across Mohali district today. Effigies of Ravana, Meghnath and Kumbhkaran were burnt at several places in the district. In Sector 77, the event was celebrated for the 47th time. Here, an effigy of drug menace was also burnt.

In Sector 79, the ceremony was held in an open park near Amity School.

In Sector 70, the celebrations were held on the backside of Amar Hospital. In Phase 1, a 60-foot effigy of Ravana was burnt. After the function, there was traffic congestion on roads for around two hours.

Celebrating the festival with residents of Kurali, Kharar MLA Anmol Gagan Mann said the decades-old tradition of burning the effigies of Ravana, Meghnath and Kumbhkaran signified that truth had always prevailed over evil.

Dera Bassi MLA Kuljit Singh Randhawa lit the effigies at Chhat village, Dyalpura, Dhakoli, Pabhat and Kalgidhar Enclave in Zirakpur.
