Ex-PGI Director delivers First Prof Harkishan Singh Memorial lecture
National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER), Mohali, organized its first Padma Shri Prof Harkishan Singh Memorial Oration lecture. The Oration lecture was delivered by cardiologist Prof KK. Talwar, former Director, PGIMER, Chandigarh.
The oration was instituted by NIPER to honour contributions of Prof Harkishan Singh to pharmaceutical sciences and establishing and structuring NIPER.
NIPER also houses Prof Harkishan Singh Archival Collection with over 1,713 volumes on pharmaceutical developments in India of the last couple of centuries at The NIPER Pharmaceutical Heritage Centre.
Prof SS Sharma, chairman of the organising committee, paid a memorial tribute to Prof Harkishan Singh. NIPER Director Prof Dulal Panda, in his address, said Prof Harkishan Singh was a true visionary and it was important opportunity to thank him by this oration lecture. He said connecting medical fraternity, industry and pharmacy was the need of the hour.
Prof Talwar delivered an oration lecture on ‘Drugs in Heart Failure — Present and Future Hopes’. He mentioned about the current drugs and implants available for cardiac ailments. He said exercise, balanced diet, not smoking and honesty in dealing were the key points for the good heart health. Prof Talwar also mentioned about the barren areas available for research in the field of cardiology.
