Ex-ITBP inspector duped of Rs 81,000 by cyber fraudster
The Panchkula police have registered a case of cyber fraud after a former ITBP inspector was duped of Rs 81,000 in the name of cattle purchase.
Ramesh Chand (62), a resident of Garhi Kotaha village in Raipur Rani of Panchkula, who had retired as inspector from the ITBP said he needed to buy cattle for household purposes. He came across an advertisement regarding the sale of cattle on a social media site. After calling at the given contact number, Ramesh Chand buy a cattle for Rs 80,000.
He said the seller then asked him to pay Rs 20,000 as transportation charges from Madhya Pradesh to Panchkula.
He did as he was told. Chand later received a phone call in which the caller told him that he was transporting the cattle to his home, but vehicle had been stopped at a toll plaza. The caller asked him to send Rs 35,500 allegedly to be given to police. The caller demanded more money from him on one excuse or the other.
After he sent some money online, Ramesh Chand said the caller claimed that he was stuck in Shahabad. Chand went to Shahbad, but could not find him there. In his complaint to the police, Chand said he was duped of Rs 81,000 in the name of cattle purchase.
The Panchkula police have registered a case under Sections 316 (2) (criminal breach of trust) and 318 (4) (cheating and dishonestly) of the BNS.
