Under the banner of the Joint Action Committee, the UT and MC employees today organised a protest march towards the Governor’s House demanding the DC rates should be increased by 15 per cent for all categories.

A demand letter in this regard will be handed over to Deputy Commissioner Vinay Pratap Singh tomorrow. Today, on a call given by the association, employees gathered near Shivalik Hotel, Sector 17, and marched towards the Governor’s House, raising slogans against officials of the Chandigarh Administration and the Municipal Corporation.

Barricades were put up by the police. When the employees were stopped, they handed over their demand letter to SDM Tejdeep Singh Saini to be forwarded to Chandigarh Administrator Banwarilal Parohit.

The SDM assured the delegation that the demand letter would soon be sent to the Chandigarh Administrator.

Yesterday, the Administration announced an increase in the wages for employees of 247 categories by 15 per cent. Their salary has increased by Rs 2,100 to about Rs 5,000.

However, the Administration has not increased the DC rates for 129 categories of employees such as drivers, security guards, conductors and others. In the order issued by DC Vinay Pratap Singh, it has been said along with a minimum salary, allowances could also be given.
