Well-known child actor Maisha Dixit and her aunt Surbhi Jain suffered injuries when a large granite slab fell on them off a pillar at Elante Mall in Industrial Area here. The two were discharged from hospital on Monday night, but they were not in a position to record a police statement.

The incident occurred when the family visited Elante Mall on Sunday to celebrate Maisha’s 13th birthday. Maisha and Surbhi were posing for photographs when the granite slab fell on them, causing them "severe" injuries.

Maisha, who has around 2.70 lakh followers on Instagram, has acted in serials such as Kahani Matarani Ki, Silsila Badalte Rishton Ka and Mishthi Khanna and resides in Sector 22.

The police visited the private hospital where Maisha and Surbhi were admitted to record their statements, but they were unable to do so as the duo was in trauma. “We are waiting for the victims' statements before proceeding with further action,” a police official said.

Atul Jain, Surbhi’s brother-in-law, said Maisha and Surbhi sustained serious injuries. "Maisha suffered injuries in her hip bone and ribs, while Surbhi suffered a head injury that required stitches. Some tests, including a CT scan, are pending to fully assess the extent of Surbhi’s head injury,” Atul said.

Atul recounted the chaotic moments following the incident, stating that the duo was taken to the mall’s medical room. “There was a delay in getting an ambulance and we had to wait for 15 minutes,” he said. Atul added that Surbhi was bleeding profusely and only a piece of cloth was available to stop the flow of blood.

"There was a fatal mishap at this mall a few months ago, when an 11-year-old boy died after a toy train overturned. This is the second such incident, and this is shocking," Atul added

The Elante management issued a statement, claiming that their "team" acted swiftly following the incident. “We are aware of the incident which happened on our premises. Reacting swiftly, our team rushed the customer to the hospital for preliminary treatment and care. We are also cooperating with the authorities in this regard. Internally, we are inspecting the premises and taking due corrective action to ensure such incidents do not happen in future," the statement read.
