Drunken driving: 10 vehicles impounded
Mohali, December 13
The Mohali police have launched a campaign against drunken driving and those creating nuisance in markets and outside eateries.
As many as 10 vehicles were challaned and impounded yesterday. Today, the police took out a flag march in the city.
DSP (City-1) Gursher Singh said: “Yesterday was the first day of the drive. Such drives will continue in the coming days and people found drinking in public places and outside eateries will be booked under the Excise Act. Action will also be taken against erring shopkeepers serving food and drinks in the open places. Our endeavour is to ensure safe environment for residents.” Several persons, especially youngsters, were found drinking on roadsides near popular eateries and parking lots. In some places, it led to traffic jams too.
Farmers’ protest
The Mohali police have made arrangements for farmers’ protest outside the District Administrative Complex.
Mohali SSP Satinder Singh has held a meeting with local farmer leaders, who would be protesting outside the complex tomorrow.
DSP (City-2) Deep Kamal said: ‘’All preparations have been made. Extra force has been put to use to ensure the smooth flow of traffic. We expect the protest to be peaceful.’’
