The Department of Endocrinology at the PGIMER organised a screening camp and an awareness session at the New OPD Complex to mark World Diabetes Day here today.

The event saw an impressive turnout, with over 100 participants. The screening camp offered free consultations with endocrinologists and nutritionists providing advice tailored to individual health conditions. Attendees were also given brochures and informative materials regarding the symptoms and complications of diabetes.

Dr Sanjay Bhadada, Professor & Head of the Department of Endocrinology, emphasised the necessity of raising awareness on the disease. He said, “Our aim is to empower individuals with knowledge, enabling them to make informed decisions about their health. More than just screening, the session was about the importance of a holistic approach, integrating diet, exercise, and regular medical care.”

Meanwhile, Chirag, another awareness initiative by leading private eye hospital, was conducted at the Indian Medical Association (IMA) Complex, Sector 35, in the presence of Dr Jagat Ram, former Director of the PGIMER and Dr MR Dogra, former Head of the Eye Department, PGIMER. The aim was to enlighten people about the impact of diabetes on vision, leading to partial or total blindness. Emphasis was on the role of regular and comprehensive fundus examinations which must be done as soon as an individual is diagnosed with diabetes for the first time.
