Depts explore integration of Olympic values in school edu
In a collaborative move towards fostering a sports culture and instilling value-based education in government schools, the Departments of Education and Sports held a strategic meeting with Olympics gold medallist shooter Abhinav Bindra, founder of the Abhinav Bindra Foundation Trust. The primary agenda was the integration of the Olympic Values Education Programme (OVEP), a flagship initiative of the International Olympic Committee, in r to promote physical activity, character building and life skills.
The meeting was held in Chandigarh and was attended by Secretary, Education and Sports, Prerna Puri, along with Director, Education, Harsuhinder Pal Singh Brar and Director, Sports, Sorabh Kumar Arora. By integrating the OVEP in schools, the local administration aims to develop well-rounded citizens. The programme also seeks to train teachers in delivering these values effectively and integrating sports events that provide a real-world application of Olympic principles.
“We envision a future where every child has the opportunity to experience the transformative power of sport, not only as a pathway to physical fitness, but also as a foundation for essential life skills,” said Bindra. He further added, “I am inspired by Chandigarh Administration’s commitment to integrating these values in schools and am excited to see the positive change this partnership will bring in the lives of countless children.”
