In run up to the Dasehra celebrations and the impending Panchayat elections in the state, the police on Friday sounded a red alert across the state. The alert was sounded on the directions of Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav to ensure the safety and security of all citizens, an official said.

Police personnel deployed at nakas have been asked to conduct extensive checking of all two-wheelers and suspicious vehicles and also to take preventive action against people found to be suspicious. All the inter-state and inter-district boundaries in the state have been sealed, the official added.
