Dadu Majra man held for swapping debit cards in Chandigarh

A 26-year-old man has been arrested by the UT police for fraudulently swapping debit cards at ATM booths. The accused has been identified as Satish Kumar, a resident of Dadu Majra. The police have recovered 60 debit cards of various banks from him.

The incident came to light after a complaint was filed by Rohit Kumar, a resident of Hallo Majra. On September 16, Rohit had gone to an ATM booth to withdraw cash, but the machine developed some snag. Satish offered to help and cleverly swapped Rohit’s debit card with another one. As he had seen Rohit inserting the pin code on the ATM, he later withdrew Rs 20,400 from his account.

On September 25, Rohit visited the same ATM booth at Hallo Majra. He spotted Rohit there and apprehended him. He informed the police and Satish was arrested.

During investigation, the accused confessed to carrying out similar frauds in other parts of the city as well. He is already facing a cheating case registered against him at the Sarangpur police station in 2023.

A fresh case has been registered against him at the Sector 31 police station. “We are investigating to find how many people were duped by the accused in the city,” said a police official.
