In yet another case of cyber fraud, a Panchkula resident was duped of Rs 50,000 on the promise of making quick bucks by investing money. Priya Goyal, a resident of Sector 5 Mansa Devi Complex, in her complaint to the police said she was using an social media portal where she came across an advertisement for work from home. She got in touch with certain individuals through WhatsApp.

She said they them sent her a link of a portal and asked her to ‘like’ various pictures of women accessories on the page. Priya did as directed and was paid Rs 360.

She said the individuals then asked her to pay them Rs 1,000 and offered Rs 1,300 in return. After a few such transactions, she said they took money but did not return any. In turn, they demanded more money from her. Priya said she transferred Rs 48,000 to them and also lodged a complaint with the police.

The Panchkula Police have registered a case against unidentified persons under Sections 316 (2) and 318 (4) of the BNS.
