Cop, two others get six-month jail sentence
A local court has sentenced a police inspector and two others to six-month imprisonment each in a case of wrongful restraint and criminal intimidation. The three convicts are inspector Virender Sharma, Satish and Vikram Pal.
Complainant Om Uppal said he had earlier filed a complaint against Virender Shama for detaining him in the lock up at police station, Sector 14, Pachkula, on May 31, 2012, but no action was initiated against the inspector. After he filed a writ before the HC, the latter directed the relevant authorities to take necessary action.
The Additional Chief Secretary to Government of Haryana, Home Department, passed an order to the police department to shift inspector Sharma. After the inspector filed a civil writ petition, the HC stayed the order of the Additional Chief Secretary.
The complainant said on August 16, 2017, Sharma along with two others stopped his vehicle in front of Uppal at the Mini Secretariat, Panchkula, and threatened to eliminate him in a false encounter in case he appeared and filed a reply before the High Court in relation to the CWP filed by the inspector.
Uppal filed a complaint against the inspector and others with the police department. He went to the court stating that no action was initiated upon his complaint. The court held that Sharma, along with the others, wrongfully restrained and intimidated him.
