Chandigarh Congress stages protest over mayoral polls

Chandigarh, February 2

Members of both the Chandigarh Youth Congress and the city Congress today held a symbolic funeral procession over the alleged rigging of the mayoral election.

HS Lucky, president, Chandigarh Pradesh Congress, said the mandate was in favour of INDIA bloc but the BJP fraudulently got the votes declared invalid. The people of the city would never forget and forgive this act, he added.

Mahila Congress president Deepa Dubey said democracy was crushed in the mayoral election. Rules, law, democracy, its dignity and the Constitution were set aside in order to grab power, she added.

Chandigarh Youth Congress president Manoj Lubana expressed shock over the alleged act of the ruling BJP to grab power and emphasised the need for a thorough investigation into the electoral process. He urged the authorities concerned to address the concerns raised by the citizens and political activists alike. He said, “The event serves not only as a lament but also a call for action to safeguard the democratic values that are fundamental to our country’s identity.”
