Last year, the police had arrested two gangsters for hatching a conspiracy to eliminate Neeraj. Two pistols and 14 cartridges were recovered from them. Two more accused involved in the case were recently brought on production warrant by the police.

Investigations revealed that the shooters were operating on the directions of gangster Gurjant Singh, alias Janta, brother of Jaspreet Singh, alias Jassi, who, along with gangster Jaipal Singh Bhullar, was killed in an encounter in Kolkata in 2021.
