City beat Puducherry in T20 tourney
A partnership of 123 runs between Raj Angad Bawa and Shivam Bhambri helped Chandigarh to register a five-wicket win over Puducherry during the opening encounter of Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Tournament at Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh.
The Chandigarh skipper won the toss and put Pondicherry to bat. The side, once struggling at 50/3, got a major support by Ajay Rohera. He scored 105 off 56 balls, with 13 boundaries and four sixes, as the side scored 183/5 in the stipulated 20 overs. Sandeep Sharma (2/36) and Nishank Birla (2/43) shared wickets for the bowling side.
In reply, Chandigarh had a dismal start with 20/2 on board as skipper Manan Vohra (13) and Arjun Azad (5) were back to the hut. Later, Bhambri and Bawa joined in the middle to steer the team closer to target. Bawa scored 61 runs off 36 balls with five sixes and three boundaries. Bhambri smashed 69 runs in 48 balls with three sixes and five fours. Chandigarh won the match by five wickets with five balls to spare. Gaurav Puri added 27.
Chandigarh’s next match is against Vidarbha on November 25.
