Chargesheet filed against woman in two cheating cases of Rs 1.30 crore

Chandigarh Police have filed a chargesheet against a woman, Manjit Kaur, in two more cheating cases of over Rs 1.30 crore registered for allegedly duping complainants in the name of getting them CHB flats.

According to the chargesheet, the woman cheated the accused persons while promising them to get them flats under the Prime Minister or Governor’s discretionary quota. The first case was registered on the complaint of Gopal Attri of Burail, Chandigarh, on July 9, 2022, under various sections of the IPC at police station, Sector 49. He told the police that he was doing private work and was in search of a house in Chandigarh. He met the accused, a resident of Sector 51, Chandigarh, who said she could arrange a flat in Sector 51 for him at a reasonable price.

The accused gave him an assurance that she would get a flat under Prime Minister or Governor or oustee quota. She also showed him two flats and took Rs 30.90 lakh at different times. After getting the money when he asked her to give him the possession of the flat, she started making excuses. Manjit neither got him any flat, nor returned the amount.

The second case was registered on the complaint of Judge Paul Mehta and his wife Sudarshan Kumari in 2021. They said Manjit, her son and her daughter-in-law Pardeep Kaur Baidwan lured them on the pretext that she would get them two flats under discretionary quota for senior citizen with chronic disease and two booths in Sector 51, Chandigarh. The total cost, including registration charges, will be around Rs 1.35 crore.

They gave her Rs 1.35 crore against the two flats and two booths. But, later the accused started making excuses. Despite several requests the accused returned Rs 38 lakh. The victims said they had been cheated of Rs 97.22 lakh.

According to the police, the accused have cheated other persons also on the same lines by promising them CHB flats for which cases are registered in different police stations.
