Local traders have demanded a permanent mini-fire tender at the plaza in Sector 17 in view of the festival season.

The Chandigarh Traders Association, Sector 17, president Kamaljit Singh Panchhi stated that safety of customers and shopkeepers was a concern in the light of expected heavy footfall in the Sector 17 market during the ongoing festival season, especially around Diwali.

In an appeal to UT Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria, they demanded a permanent mini-fire tender at the plaza near the police chowki, Sector 17, to tackle any fire incident during Diwali days.

He stressed the importance of this measure to address potential fire emergencies during the festive rush, noting that the overcrowded parking lots could hinder the passage of fire tenders. A mini-fire tender, strategically placed, would ensure quicker response and help prevent any disaster.
