The UT Food Safety Administration has decided to train and certify all 900 mid-day meal workers involved in food preparation and serving in government schools across Chandigarh. This will be done under the Food Safety Training and Certification (FoSTaC) programme initiated by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), Government of India.

The decision was taken during the fifth meeting of the State-Level Advisory Committee for Safe Food and Healthy Diets, chaired by Ajay Chagti, Secretary, Health-cum-Commissioner, Food Safety.

On January 16, 2023, the first batch of 100 mid-day meal workers received training at the Government Multispecialty Hospital, Sector 16.

The FSSAI has launched the FoSTaC programme aimed at training food business operators (FBOs) involved in making, distribution, storage, retail and wholesale of food products intended for human consumption.
