Chandigarh taxi driver shot dead in Punjab's Samrala, assailants flee with car

Deceased’s father says his son called him after being shot by attackers; also shared his location on mobile

Ludhiana, August 10

A taxi driver was shot dead by unknown assailants at Harion village on the Chandigarh-Ludhiana bypass in Samrala, in the early hours of Saturday.

According to officials, the deceased identified as Ravi Kumar, was a resident of Chandigarh. The miscreants pumped several bullets into the driver and allegedly fled with his Alto car.

Samrala DSP Tarlochan Singh along with a police team reached the spot and started investigation.

Deceased’s father Jai Kumar said his son had been driving a taxi from last three to four months. Kumar said on Friday night, Ravi told him that he had got a ride from Chandigarh to Ludhiana and was going to drop the passengers.

“Early this morning, I got a call from my son who said he was shot dead by someone and is going to die. He also sent his location on my mobile following which I informed the police and we also reached Samrala.

“My son had no enmity with anyone. It could be the handiwork of some criminals who killed him. We want justice,” said Ravi’s father.

The DSP said teams have got some clues about the attackers and they would be traced soon.
