Chandigarh Sports Dept to host kho-kho, handball tourneys for boys, girls
The UT Sports Department will organise a kho-kho tournament (U-17) for boys and girls and a handball meet (U-17 and U-19) for boys and girls at the Sports Complex, Sector 42.
The kho-kho tournament is scheduled to run from October 23 to 26 at the Kho-Kho Court in Sector 42. Eligible participants must be born on or after January 1, 2008. Interested players are required to submit their entries in the designated proforma by October 20. Entry forms can be accessed on the department’s official website, http://sportsdeptt.chd.gov.in as well as at the Kho-Kho Coaching Centre, Sports Complex, Sector 42.
The handball tournament will take place from October 27 to 30 at the Handball Court in Sector 42. The U-17 category is open to participants born on or after January 1, 2008, while the U-19 category is open to those born on or after January 1, 2006. Entries for the handball tournament must be submitted by October 23, 2024. Forms are available both on the department’s website and at the Handball Coaching Centre, Sports Complex, Sector 42, as well as at CC GMSSS-23.
To ensure authenticity, entries will only be accepted in person at the specified coaching centres after verification of participants’ credentials. Eligibility is open to students who are either residents of Chandigarh or currently enrolled in Chandigarh-based schools or colleges. Required documentation includes a birth certificate issued by the state’s Registrar of Births, an Aadhaar Card, and a valid school/college ID or bonafide certificate.
There is no entry fee for either tournament, and all participants will be provided with refreshments during their matches.
UT Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria expressed his support for these initiatives, which aim to strengthen the role of sports in the holistic development of Chandigarh’s youth, promoting unity, skill-building and competitive experience in a supportive environment.
