A local court has sentenced a resident of Sector 52 to undergo four years of rigorous imprisonment for injuring a person with a knife.

A case was registered against the accused, Sunny Kumar, at the Sector 34 police station following a complaint by one Arvind.

The complainant stated that he supplied furniture at the Sector 34 market. On October 7, 2019, he was loading furniture where victim Sanjay and Sunny were present. They had a verbal argument around 11 pm. Later, Sunny called his friends from the market. They started beating up Sanjay and also stabbed him with a knife with an intention to kill him. The attackers fled as he shouted for help. The victim was taken to a hospital in Sector 32 in a PCR vehicle.

During investigation, the accused Sunny was arrested.

After hearing the arguments of the counsel for the accused and the public prosecutor, the court convicted the accused for the offences punishable under Sections 326, 148, 506 read with Section 149 of the IPC, but acquitted him of the charge under Section 307. The court awarded four-year jail to the convict and imposed a fine of Rs 9,000 on him.
