Chandigarh: Sector 26 mandi full of slush, visitors at receiving end
Visitors to the fruit, vegetable and grain market in Sector 26 were a harried lot as the whole area was full of slush.
Pedestrians as well as motorists faced a tough time making their way through slushy roads and paths. Big potholes filled with rainwater aggravated their trouble. Almost all entry/exit points are riddled with big potholes.
Since cleaning is not done properly in the market, roads remains strewn with garbage. It takes the form of slush after the rain, and roads become slippery. Several riders suffered injuries as their bikes skidded on the slippery roads. Buying vegetables and fruit under such hygienic condition also raises health concerns. “No cleaning is done here. Only a part of the area is cleaned sometimes,” said a vendor.
Shopkeepers and vendors said the place, which was one of the biggest trade centre of the city, was in ruins. They demanded staff responsible for cleaning should be held accountable and renovation done without further delay.
