Youth arrested with heroin

Chandigarh: The police have arrested a 19-year-old youth with 13.58 gram heroin. The suspect, Harish, a resident of Phase-II Ram Darbar, was arrested near his house. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered against him at the Sector 31 police station.

Mauli Jagran man stabbed

Chandigarh: Sunil of Mauli Jagran alleged that Sameer, alias Pali, a resident of Rajiv Colony, Sector 17, along with others stabbed him at the Mauli Complex. He was admitted to the Government hospital, Sector 32. TNS

Shireen finishes third in 400M

Chandigarh: Local athlete Shireen Ahluwalia claimed third position in the women’s 400m event, during the 35th North Zone Junior Athletics Championship at New Delhi. Shireen clocked 59.09 seconds to achieve the feat. A student of GGDSD College, Sector 32, Shireen trains under UT Sports Department athletics coach Maninder Singh Hira at the Sector 7 Sports Complex. Last year, Shireen was part of the Indian sprint medley relay team that claimed the top podium position during the Youth Asian Championship at Uzbekistan. The Indian team won the gold medal in 2 minutes and 11.21 seconds (2:11.21s).

Yoga performers win medals

Chandigarh: Yoga performers of PMLSD Public School, Sector 32, won a rich haul of medals in the 40th State Yogasana Sports Championship, organised by Chandigarh Yoga Association (CYA). Shivam won first position in the traditional yogasana event, followed by Aarav, who claimed the gold medal in the traditional yogasana event of boys’ subjunior category.

Pawan bags twin title

Chandigarh: Local tennis player Pawan Kapoor won a twin title at ITF Masters World Tour 400 Tennis Championship, at Jhajjar. In the final of the 55+ category, Kapoor defeated Alok Bhatnager 6-2 6-3. In the doubles final, he partnered with Bhatnager and overpowered Anup Rasterwar and Luxmi Kant Tanwar 6-3 6-3 to clinch doubles’ title in the same age group.
