Chandigarh, August 13
Pardeep Chhabra, former president, Chandigarh Congress, on Friday joined the Aam Admi Party in the presence of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in New Delhi.
He had recently quit the Congress party in Chandigarh.
Last Friday, Chhabra, a former mayor, had resigned from the primary membership of the party.
For the past six months, he had been at loggerheads with incumbent president Subhash Chawla. It was in February this year that the party high command had replaced Chhabra with Chawla at the top city unit.
Chhabra has been targeting Chawla and ex-MP Pawan Kumar Bansal since he was removed as the party president. He has been alleging that he was not being called for party meetings and forums, and was being ignored.
On this occasion, AAP National Organisation Team Building Incharge Durgesh Pathak and Punjab incharge Jarnail Singh also welcomed Chhabra.
AAP Chandigarh president Prem Garg and MC election incharge Chander Mukhi Sharma, while welcoming Chhabra to AAP, said his induction into AAP would strengthen the party and it would win the maximum seats in the forthcoming MC elections.
Kejriwal instructed the AAP Chandigarh team to make all efforts to repeat the Delhi win in the MC Chandigarh elections.
Chhabra thanked Kejriwal and assured him to get maximum seats in the MC elections.
