Chandigarh: The UT police have arrested Karan Dhindsa, owner of an immigration company, Way to Abroad, Sector 35, on a complaint of Mohinder Pal Singh of Sector 44. The complainant had alleged that the suspect cheated him of Rs 2.50 lakh on the pretext of providing a work visa for Canada. A case has been registered at the Sector 36 police station. TNS

Three held for trespass, theft

Chandigarh: The UT police have arrested three persons for trespassing and committing a theft at a house in Sector 10. Complainant Jaswinder Singh, who was staying on rent, alleged that Sanjeev Kumar of Sector 15, Narinder of Dhanas and a woman, Rajni, trespassed on his house and stole some household items from the house. A case was registered at the Sector 3 police station and the suspects were arrested.

100 donate blood at GMCH camp

Chandigarh: Nearly 100 persons donated blood during a camp organised to mark World Blood Donor Day at the GMCH-32 here. Among the donors were cadets from 2nd Chandigarh Battalion, NCC, GMCH faculty, staff, students, resident doctors and other volunteers. The camp was inaugurated by Yashpal Garg, Secretary, Health and Medical Education & Research. Blood donors, including GMCH doctors and staff, with more than 50 donations were honoured. TNS

Two books released

Fatehgarh Sahib: Dr VK Bansal, Professor Emeritus at Panjab University, Chandigarh, released two law books “Guardianship and Custody in Muslim Law” and “Acid Attacks in India” written by Dr Varun Sharma, Prof at Lincoln College of Law, during a function held in the college campus on Tuesday. Dr Harman Shergill, member, District Consumer Commission, Patiala, was the chief guest, while college MD Jashandeep Siingh Bhatti presided over the event. Principal Bhupinder Kaur and Prof Jiwanjot Kaur congratulated Varun Sharma for the achievement. OC

U-15 rapid chess meet from June 24

Chandigarh: The Chandigarh Chess Association will organise Chandigarh Schools Under-15 Rapid Chess Selection Tournament-2022 from June 24 to 25, at Rajasthan Bhawan in Sector 33. The tournament will be held separately for boys and girls of the schools in the city. The champion and runners-up in both the categories as well as the best player from government school in both categories (in total three boys and three girls) will be selected to visit Chennai to witness the 44th Chess Olympiad, wherein as many as 187 countries are participating. There will be no entry fee for this tournament and as many as 50 prizes will be distributed among the participants. Cricket meet from June 18

Chandigarh: As many as eight teams will participate in the CRIC8inNET U-16 cricket tournament, which will be organised under the supervision of former Haryana Ranji player and selector Surinder Singh Baijee, from June 18. There will be no entry fee for the participating teams. “The matches will be played at the cricket ground of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 19. The championship will be conducted in 40-over format (each side) and the winners of this championship will be awarded with kits,” said Baijee. The interested teams can confirm their entries with the organisers at the tournament venue. TNS

10-day Carrom summer camp

Chandigarh: The Chandigarh Carrom Association will organise a 10-day summer carrom coaching camp from June 29 to July 8 at St Stephen’s School, Sector 45. The camp will be conducted for senior, junior and sub-junior (men and women) categories. TNS

Golf camp concludes

Chandigarh: A 10-day summer golf coaching camp concluded at the Chandigarh Golf Association (CGA) golf range. Eleven juniors and subjunior golfers participated in the camp. The camp was conducted by Mahesh Kumar, a Class A teaching professional; Sarvar Hussain, a Class C professional; and Rajinder, a Class D professional. TNS

NCB organises run at Sukhna

Chandigarh: The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Chandigarh, in collaboration with the Chandigarh Police and the Chandigarh Welfare Trust, organised a 3-km run at Sukhna Lake to mark the start of events for International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking which falls on June 26. Slogans such as “Say no to drugs and say yes to life”’ were raised to encourage kids and the youth for sports and live a better healthy life. Amanjit Singh, Zonal Director, NCB, welcomed the dignitaries and participants.
