Chandigarh girls grab gold in junior event
The local girls’ junior team won the Yonex-Sunrise North Zone Inter-State Badminton Team Championship played at the Centre of Excellence for Badminton, Sector 38 Sports Complex.
In the final, the local team registered a 2-0 win over Haryana. Rijul Saini defeated Garima Kundu 21-17 26-24. Nimar Kaur Virk and Rijul won the doubles event by defeating Akanksha Singh and Ruchi Chahal 21-14 21-17.
In the men’s team final, Rajasthan defeated Haryana 3-1. In the first match, Rajasthan’s Pranay Katta defeated Manraj Singh by registering a comeback 17-21 21-17 21-18 victory. However, Harsh Chaplot faced a 21-14 11-21 20-22 defeat against Gautam Arora. In the doubles final, the team of Denish Shrivastava and Shubham Patel easily defeated Anshul Budhwar and Sunny Nehra 21-16 21-10 to get a 2-1 lead. In the last final, Sanskar Saraswat defeated Shashwat Dalal 21-12 21-11.
Haryana won the women’s final by defeating Delhi 3-1. In the opening match, Haryana’s Devika Sihag defeated Rishika Nandi 21-13 21-14, while Unnati Hooda ousted Yashvi Bhat 22-20 21-17. In the doubles, Haryana’s pair Apoorva and Sakshi Gahlawat went down against Khushi Gupta and Likhita Srivastava 15-21 16-21. In the final match, Haryana’s Jiya Rawat ensured gold for the side by defeating Dianka Waldia 21-7 21-16.
Vijayendra Kumar, Principal Secretary, Government of Haryana, awarded the winners and the runners-up team.
