Chandigarh employees hold protest to press for pending demands

On the call of the All India State Government Employees Federation, Electricity Employees Federation of India and other Central trade unions, members of the Federation of UT Employees and Workers went on a strike and held a rally near Hotel Shivalikview here today.

Women employees took part in the protest in large number. Among them were teachers of the working on contract basis, helpers employed in crèches and those working in government and semi-government departments.

Among the main demands of the protesters were repeal of the Pension Fund Regulatory & Development Authority Act and restoration of old pension, confirmation of all contract/outsourced/delegated and other irregular employees and promotion and regular filling of vacant posts in all government, semi-government departments and public sector undertakings.

They also demanded that privatisation of departments like electricity, water, health, education, etc should be stopped and parks and green belts running under horticulture wing should not got into private hands. They demanded that the cases filed against the electricity workers in 2022 should be withdrawn.
