Chandigarh, February 29
The city BJP has sounded the Lok Sabha poll bugle with its 500 booth-level teams already hitting the ground running.
According to the party, there are a total of 614 booths in the city. Of these, teams have been formed for 500. They have started reaching out to residents. Each booth has 1,000-1,200 voters and the BJP has put 25 party workers each on the job.
Top city BJP leaders, among others, will be held responsible for the party’s performance at local booths.
The top BJP leaders, including national vice-president Saudan Singh, local unit president Jatinder Pal Malhotra, MP Kirron Kher, former MP Satya Pal Jain, former city unit presidents Sanjay Tandon and Arun Sood, many of whom are ticket aspirants from the city, have been entrusted with ensuring the party’s win in the booths that fall in the area they live in.
“Unlike past, even senior leaders have been categorically told to take care of their respective booths as “Palak”, i.e. in charge, and perform,” said a party leader. Though booth presidents are already there, these senior leaders and councillors will be in charge of their respective booths. Each senior leader will have the responsibility of getting as many votes as he or she can for the BJP. Online mapping is also being done.
They will have to reach out to voters and propagate the party’s good works and policies to convince them to vote for the party candidate.
“Now, senior leaders will be judged and evaluated on the basis of voting percentage of their area. Now, they cannot shirk from their responsibility and make accuses,” said a party leader.
On preparations, Malhotra, while talking to Chandigarh Tribune, said, “About 80 per cent of our booths teams have been formed and workers are already on the job. The remaining will be formed in a few days. Leaders from the ground to senior level will jointly work to once to ensure the BJP’s win.”
City BJP vice-president Shakti Prakash Devshali said, “Teams are working day in day out and senior leaders are guiding them. There will be no house that is not approached by us.”
