The anti-graft probe agency CBI on Tuesday said it has arrested Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Harbhajan Singh, who is posted at Sector 34 Police Station in Chandigarh, while accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000.
CBI spokesperson RC Joshi said, “A case has been registered ASI, posted at Police Station, Sector-34, Chandigarh on a complaint alleging that the accused was demanding bribe of Rs 20,000 in lieu of not registering a case against the complainant, an employee of Air Force, in a matter of non-payment of loan amount to a finance company.”
In the complaint Joshi said, it was further alleged that the accused threatened the Air Force employee that there was a complaint lodged by the finance company against him. “The complainant, who is said to be retiring from his service in coming months, allegedly felt threatened that his retirement funds/benefit may be stuck if a case is registered against him,” he said.
“The CBI laid a trap and caught the accused red-handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 as partial payment. Searches were conducted at the premises of accused and other suspected places,” Joshi said, adding that the ASI was produced today in the court of special judge, CBI cases, Chandigarh and remanded him to one day’s police custody.
