Campus notes: National Legal Services Day celebrated

The Legal Literacy Cell of the college celebrated National Legal Services Day with an insightful legal awareness session, aimed at educating students about their rights and responsibilities. Dr Sapna Nanda, Principal, welcomed the key note speaker Rajeshwar Singh, Law Officer, Sate Legal Services Authority, UT Chandigarh, and highlighted the significance of the day in promoting legal literacy and empowering youth to understand legal frameworks that impacted their lives. In his keynote address, Rajeshwar emphasised the importance of celebrating National Legal Services Day.
Aryans college of Law, Mohali
As per the directives of the National Legal Services Authority, New Delhi, the Legal Services Day was celebrated by the college. The students of LLB and BA LLB, along with the faculty members organised a legal aid awareness camp in nearby villages. Dr Anshu Kataria, Chairman, said the aim of the camp was to empower the disadvantaged sections of society to seek and demand justice services. Also, legal literacy helps the weaker sections stay aware and updated of their various legal and constitutional rights, he said.
Desh Bhagat University, Chandigarh
The university adopted a fully digital system for PhD thesis evaluation. This move will help students and faculty to adopt technology for academic efficiency and to improve research experience for scholars. This digital thesis evaluation system would also help advance the Digital India initiative of the Government of India.
SGGS-26, Chandigarh
The college organised ‘Financial Literacy Programme 2024’ aimed at empowering youth with essential skills in financial management, cyber safety and start-up opportunities. The resource persons covered important financial topics, such as budgeting, saving and smart financial planning. The students learned about safe online banking practices and the benefits of various financial schemes offered by the government.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Maharaj Agrasen University, Baddi, and the college. This partnership aims at enhancing academic programmes through collaboration and resource sharing, increasing opportunities for faculty and students, improving outcomes through joint teaching, training and cultural activities and fostering stronger industry connections.
Chandigarh University, Mohali
On the auspicious occasion of the 555th birth anniversary of Sri Guru Nanak Dev, a special lecture on ‘The Dialogue of Enlightenment: Travellings (Udasian) of Sri Guru Nanak Dev’ was organised by Guru Nanak Chair for Studies in Universal Advancement (an institution dedicated to Sikh religious research) at Chandigarh University. Professor Karamtej Singh Sarao said, “As part of my research on Buddhism, I travelled to different corners of the world. During one of my visits, I came to know about an ancient Hindu temple in Baku city of Azerbaijan. I saw there was a small, round and dome-shaped sanctum sanctorum and Mul Mantra (Gurmukhi’s divine text) was inscribed on one of the walls.”
