Chitkara University

Raj P Narayanam, founder and executive chairman, Zaggle Prepaid Ocean Services Limited, was conferred an honorary Doctor of Literature (Honoris Causa) degree by the university. The honour, recommended by the academic council and board of management, recognises Narayanam’s significant contributions to entrepreneurship, start-up mentorship, and FinTech innovation. Pro-Chancellor Madhu Chitkara said: “Raj P Narayanam exemplifies the spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship that Chitkara University strives to inspire in its students. His leadership in the industry and dedication to nurturing young entrepreneurs are truly commendable. We are honoured to recognise his contributions with this honorary degree.” Narayanam played a pivotal role in sustaining India’s start-up ecosystem, making strategic investments in 47 businesses and leading successful ventures, said the Pro-Chancellor.

Chandigarh University, Mohali

The two-day Chandigarh University International Film Festival (CUIFF’24) concluded with a panel discussion on the changing face of the Indian film industry and the plethora of opportunities available to the youth in the entertainment industry. The CUIFF’24, hosted by the Department of Animation in collaboration with Vancouver Film School, witnessed the screening of over 350 films, including 12 international entries. These films included 100 short films, 25 experimental films, 50 documentaries, 50 2D and 3D animation films, 25 Visual effects (VFX) films and 80 show reels.

Punjab Engineering College

The Entrepreneurship and Incubation Cell (EIC) of the college organised a special workshop on ‘Technology Transfer and Startups’ and ‘Semester Internships’. Prof Manu delivered a comprehensive presentation on the technology transfer and start-up industry, offering insights into the start-up process, legal formalities and the stages from ideation to execution.

Aryans Groups of Colleges, Mohali

Amir Hussain Lone, famous para-cricketer inaugurated the career counselling sessions-cum-scholarship event on August 29. Students from Chandigarh, Panchkula, Mohali, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Bihar, Delhi and Punjab will attend the 10-day event which will conclude on September 8. Dr Anshu Kataria, Chairman, Aryans Group, said the selected students would be given scholarships on merit-cum-mean basis.

Sri Guru Gobind Singh College

The college celebrated Akshay Urja Diwas 2024 on the theme ‘Impact of Akshay Urja in India’. A workshop on ‘Development of Renewal Energy and Energy Conservation’ was organised. It was sponsored by Chandigarh Renewal Energy and Science and Technology Promotion Society (CREST). Resource person Jaspal Singh, Additional Director, PEDA, gave an insightful lecture on the essentials of renewable energy development and energy conservation, emphasising their importance, current trends and future directions.

Post Graduate Government College

A two-day ‘Fabric Painting & Lippan Art’ (best out of waste) workshop was organised at the college in sector 46. The workshop was inaugurated by Principal JK Sehgal. Priya, a skilled artist, conducted a session on fabric painting. She introduced the students to various techniques and styles, allowing them to experiment with different methods of painting on fabric. It was followed by a workshop focused on Lippan art, a traditional mud and mirror work originating from the Kutch region of Gujarat.

Govt College of Commerce

The college along with ‘Bharat Soka Gakkai’, ‘Anti-stress society’, in collaboration with ‘Eco Club, Environment Society — Avni’, organised one day sustainability exhibition on ‘Seeds of Hope and action (SOHA) - Making SOHA a reality’. The objective of the exhibition was to awaken and motivate young students towards the achievement of planet Earth by sustaining availability of food, energy, climate and other resources.

Rayat Bahra University, Mohali

The university and BSI Learning Australia on Monday signed a memorandum of understanding for collaboration in job-oriented courses in hotel management and cyber security in computer engineering applications.
