Mohali, February 23
Members of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) today burnt the effigy of Punjab DGP Dinkar Gupta over his “controversial” statement that devotees visiting Kartarpur can become terrorists within six hours of stay there.
The protesters blocked the Kharar-Chandigarh main road causing heavy traffic jam.
Addressing the protesters, BSP state present Jasvir Singh Garhi said the security of Dalits in the state was in danger and added that police officers were not filing complaints or taking action against those responsible for suppression of Dalits.
Demanded the DGPs dismissal, Garhi said they would continue their protest in the state by holding protest rally at Nurmahal on February 25 where the DGP’s effigy will also be burnt there.
Earlier, the BSP held a shahidi conference at Daun village near Kharar, in which Jasvir Singh Garhi presided as the chief guest and paid tributes to Dubhali martyrs.
Among those who participated in the protest included Harjit Singh Longia, state vice president, Raja Rajendra Singh Nanheria, state general secretary, Sodhi Vikram Singh, Master Nachtar Singh, Harnek Singh Devpuri, Surinder Singh Sahoda, Harnek Singh SDO, Ujjal Singh Dubali, Sukhdev Singh Chapadchiri, Wariam Singh, and Sukhdev Singh Sonu.
