Purse snatched

Chandigarh: A scooter rider snatched a purse containing a mobile phone and ~5,000 from a woman in Sector 37. Nina Bhardwaj was returning home from the market when the snatcher targeted her.

Ratnam made expenditure observer

Panchkula: Election Commission appointed Darsi Suman Ratnam as the expenditure observer for Kalka and Panchkula Assembly constituencies for the Haryana Assembly elections. District Election Officer Yash Garg said a camp office for the observer had been established at room 108 of the PWD Rest House, Sector 1, Panchkula. He said people could visit him between 3 pm and 4 pm to register any complaint related to violations in expenditure by candidates.

Keralites seek train diversion via Chandigarh

Mohali: Office-bearers of the Malayalee Samajam, Mohali, submitted a memorandum to the General Manager and Principal Chief Operations Manager, Northern Railway, for diverting the Amritsar-Kochuveli train via Chandigarh and extension of Mangla Express to Chandigarh to ease travel. The officials assured them of required action in the matter.

Skating coach given send-off

Chandigarh: Local skating coach, Sarabjit Singh retired from the UT Chandigarh Sports Department after serving nearly 30 years. Popular as Shammi in the local skating fraternity, Sarabjit was posted at the Sector 10 Skating Rink and had the credited of helping local skaters win various medals at the national and international level. Not only in skating, Sarabjit's trainees have also achieved accolades in roller-skating events. A felicitation ceremony was organised by the UT Sports Department to honour Sarabjit on his last day of service in the department.

Raghav shines in badminton meet

Chandigarh: Suryansh Raghav, a student of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Public School, Sector 35, made the school proud by securing third position in the team event as well as in the individual category of the junior mixed doubles event of the North Zone Inter-State Badminton Championship. He was awarded the medals by Indian badminton coach Pullela Gopichand. Pritinder Kaur, principal, congratulated Raghav on his achievement.
