Chandigarh: A boy and a girl riding a motorcycle allegedly snatched a gold chain from a woman in Sector 15. The complainant reported that the snatchers, including a girl riding pillion, snatched her chain near her house on August 4. The suspects fled from the spot after the incident. The police were informed, who visited the spot. A case has been registered at the Sector 11 police station. TNS

Thieves strike at garment shop

Chandigarh: A theft was reported from a garment shop at Mani Majra on the intervening night of August 3 and 4. Complainant Rajinder Kumar Jain reported that clothes, artificial jewellery and Rs2,000 were stolen from his shop. A case has been registered at the Mani Majra police station. TNS

Mahajan is BJYM vice-president

Probe ordered to find violators

Mohali: Taking stern action against environmental rule violators, the district administration on Thursday ordered immediate inquiry into the incident of suspected chemical factory discharge, which turned seasonal rivulet’s water red in Dhakoli. Deputy Commissioner Girish Dayalan said the XEN of the Environment Department would probe the incident and sampling would be done to find the source of chemical and take action. Dayalan said prima facie, it appeared that the chemical belonged to a factory of a neighbouring state. He said teams had been deputed at the site. TNS

Prospectus released

Chandigarh: Sri Guru Gobind Singh College, Sector 26, released its prospectus for the session 2021-22 here on Thursday. Prof Sanjay Kaushik, Dean, College Development Council, was the chief guest on the occasion. Gurdev Singh Brar, president, Sikh Educational Society, Col Jasmer Singh Bala (retd), Karandeep Singh Cheema, secretary and joint secretary of the society, respectively, and Principal Navjot Kaur were present. Golf tourney begins today

Chandigarh: Local lad Karandeep Kochhar will play the inaugural Pro-Am Golf Championship at Chandigarh Golf Club starting from August 6. Three junior golfers with one professional golfer will form a team for the tournament. This will be a unique opportunity for the junior golfer to pick up the basics from the master of the game. This is for the first time that amateurs will be playing among the professionals. A total of 15 pro will be seen in action along with category A and B junior golfers. Top golfers, including Kochhar (leader in PGTI merit list), Akshay Sharma, Yuvraj Sandhu, Angad Cheema, Harinder Guta, Abhijit Chadha and Neha Tripathi, the 6th ranked player in the women’s pro order of merit, will be in action.
