The Second Innings Association, a group of senior citizens, has recommended various steps to tide over the MC financial crisis. “The MC is reportedly under a severe financial crisis. In such a situation, it should stop all unproductive expenses,” the association stated.
The association demanded that all figures of income and expenditure may be put in the public domain and suggestions to bring the MC out of the red invited by the civic body. The present MC House has failed to realise the ground realities, otherwise such unprecedented situation could not arise.
On taking proactive approach, the association has suggested that councillors should stop fighting with each other and work together to take the MC out of this financial crisis.
All allowances, entertainment expenses, payments for development fund and unproductive expenses should be stopped immediately. As a common practice, the Mayor and councillors should donate their salaries and other benefits to the MC. The entire staff should donate one-day salary and the services of outsource staff should be reviewed. As far as possible, the services of redundant staff be terminated immediately. Responsibility for pending dues may be fixed and a senior officer appointed as recovery officer.
“With financial prudence, the MC will come out of the red and there will not be any need to further burden the service users,” they added.
