BJP leader Sanjay Tandon bereaved
Brij Pal Tandon, mother of local BJP leader Sanjay Tandon and wife of late Balramji Das Tandon, former Governor of Chhattisgarh and Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab, passed away at a private hospital in Mohali today. She was cremated at the Sector 25 cremation ground in Chandigarh.
The cremation was attended by a host of dignitaries, including UT Adviser Rajeev Verma, UT Home Secretary Mandeep Brar, UT BJP president Jatinder Malhotra, BJP vice-president Ramvir Bhatti and Himachal Pradesh BJP president Rajeev Bindal, among other prominent leaders from the BJP and Congress.
Notable figures, including former Speaker Gian Chand Gupta, National General Secretary of Organisation BL Santosh, MP Manish Tiwari, actor Ayushman Khurana, and former CM of Himachal Pradesh Jai Ram Thakur, extended their condolences to her son, Sanjay Tandon, over the phone.
Born in 1932 in Amritsar, Brij Pal married Balramji Das Tandon in 1958. Throughout their life together, she exemplified strength and resilience, especially during the tumultuous 19 months of the 1975 Emergency when her husband was imprisoned. During this challenging period, she single-handedly raised their three children — Alka, Sanjay and Poonam — serving as both a mother and father figure. With unwavering resolve, she shielded her family from governmental pressures, ensuring that the burdens they faced never impacted her loved ones.
