Chandigarh, August 29
After the Aam Aadmi Party’s student wing Chhatra Yuva Sangharsh Samiti (CYSS) announced its president candidate on Wednesday, student leaders of the party, even those who joined the party in 2022 but had not been seen in these elections so far, tried to put up a united front at the Student Centre here.
While the party had announced the president face without much media presence, the party leaders today introduced him, a first-year student of LLM, Prince Chaudhary, to the university students from the first floor of the Student Centre building.
Interestingly, while some members of the CYSS reached the building amid sloganeering, they were later joined by other faction leaders, who arrived at the venue with their respective supporters.
It took a good 40-50 minutes for the student leaders to get together and assemble at the Student Centre. During the gathering, the new CYSS Chandigarh president was also announced. Harinder Singh Johnny, former NSUI leader and an active CYSS member, was announced as the new president, replacing Sanjeev Chaudhary Chechi.
Apart from the new city president, Rajat Kamboj was announced as CYSS Panjab University chairman, Amritpal Dhillon CYSS Panjab University president, Aryan Kamboj CYSS party president and Arpit was given the responsibility of CYSS campus presidentship.
It is the first attempt of the organisation at putting up a united show ahead of the student council poll. However, when names of fresh post holders were being announced, the leaders’ supporters made sure that slogans were raised for them. Amid talks doing rounds that the party could not decide on a president face and had to seek interference of AAP’s national organising secretary and Rajya Sabha MP from Punjab Sandeep Pathak, the show of strength on the campus might help the party in the form of electoral gains on September 5.
All set To enter alliance
The Chhatra Yuva Sangharsh Samiti, AAP’s student wing, is all set to enter an alliance with another student party on the campus, confirmed a senior party leader. “We will be joining hands with a progressive party on the campus,” he said. A formal announcement regarding the same is expected by Friday evening. The CYSS is contesting only for the post of president.
