Aide of robbers gang kingpin held
Dera Bassi: The The police have arrested an accomplice of the kingpin of a gang of highway robbers, who was nabbed in an encounter near Lehli in Lalru on Sunday. While Satpreet Singh, alias Satti, was caught in the shootout, Sandeep Kumar, alias Saibi, 34, a resident of Patiala, who was accompanying him, had reportedly fled the spot. TNS

Panchkula: The police arrested a youth with heroin. The suspect was identified as Mayank Singh (23) of Hangola village in Raipur Rani tehsil. The car in which the suspect was travelling was impounded. TNS

Mannat ‘best Indian player’
Chandigarh: Golfer Mannat Brar finished as the best Indian player in a playing field of 114 foreign players with 22 Indian professionals and five selected Amateurs at the HERO Women Indian Open Golf Championship, at the DLF Golf & Country Club, Gurugram. She finished at the 11th position in this prestigious Pro event, conducted by the Ladies European Tour in India. She received the Best Amateur Trophy from Pawan Munjal, Chairman, HERO Motocorp, and Kavita Singh, president of the Women’s Golf Association of India.
Pythian Games from Dec 12
Panchkula: The 1st National Cultural Pythian Games will be held from December 12 to 15, at the Tau Devi Lal Stadium in Panchkula. This event is expected to see participation from around 5,000 artistes and athletes from India, along with representatives from over 15 countries, including Russia. The Kurukshetra University and Modern Pythian Games have also reached a preliminary agreement to research the cultural connections and similarities between Indian and Greek cultures, as well as their ties during the Mahabharata era.
St Xavier’s win cricket tourney
Chandigarh: St Xavier’s Senior Secondary School, Sector 44, won the 14th Clive Shear Six-A-Side U-15 Memorial Inter-School Cricket Tournament. In the final, the Sector 44 team defeated St Xavier’s High School, Panchkula, by nine runs. Batting first, the Sector 44 team posted 83/2 with the help of Hargun (31), Rishab (22) and Shaurya (20). In reply, the Panchkula team posted 74/3. Daanish (35) and Dron Data (14) were the main contributors for the side. Rishab Tiwari was named best bowler, while Daanish claimed the best batsman title.
Local golfer wins laurels
Chandigarh: Local golfer Guntas Kaur Sandhu won the IGU Maharashtra State Ladies Amateur Championship, at Oxford Golf Resort, Pune. She won the category B, A and B combined, ladies A and B with the score of 67, 75, 73. A student of DPS, Sector 40, Guntas trains under Mahesh Kumar at the Chandigarh Golf Academy (Golf Range). She is a top ranking in the category B on the main IGU Tour.
