The Mohali administration has directed the nambardars and candidates contesting the gram panchayat elections not to indulge in stubble burning otherwise strict action would be initiated against them.

Taking stock of the farm fire incidents and availability of machinery for crop residue management, Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain said if any government employee was also found guilty in farm fire-related incidents, besides taking action as per the directions of the Supreme Court and National Green Tribunal, a disciplinary proceeding would be initiated against the employee concerned.

So far, six incidents of stubble burning have been reported in the district by satellite. Environmental compensation has been imposed on owners of the land and marking red entries have been marked in the revenue record.
