699 cops to keep a check on firecracker ban violators

Elaborate security arrangements have been made by the UT police to ensure that no untoward incident takes place in the city on Diwali.
Special nakas
- Special nakas will be set up in three shifts in parts of the city from 4 pm to 5.30 pm, 6 pm to 7.30 pm and from 8 pm to 9.30 pm
- There will be outer barrier nakas from 11 am to 2 pm and 5 pm to 10 pm
- Market patrolling will be carried out from 11 am to 2 pm and 5 pm onwards (till the instructions of SDPOs concerned) in all police station areas
As many as 699 cops, including three DSPs and 25 inspectors, will patrol markets as well as residential areas to check violation of the firecracker ban.
A spokesperson for the Chandigarh Police, DSP Charanjit Singh Virk, said staff from all police stations would patrol the city areas to ensure that people followed the UT order against bursting of crackers. “People can also report the violation to the police on 112,” said the DSP.
Any violation of the ban will invite penal action under Section 51 to 60 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, besides legal action under Section 188 of the IPC. — TNS
