601 awarded degrees at IIT-Ropar convocation

The Indian Institute of Technology, Ropar (IIT-Ropar) celebrated its 12th annual convocation on its today.
Sanjiv Mehta, former Chairman-CEO and Managing Director of Hindustan Unilever Limited, graced the occasion as chief guest and delivered the convocation address. Adil Zainulbhai, Chairman, Board of Governors, IIT-Ropar, presided over the ceremony along Director Prof Rajeev Ahuja.
A total of 601 degrees were awarded, including 40 PhD, 150 MTech, 57 MSc, 342 BTech and 12 BTech-MTech dual degrees.
Dr Ankita Gupta and Dr Debarun Patra received the best PhD Thesis Award in the science and engineering disciplines, respectively. Abhijith TR (computer science and engineering) received the President Gold Medal among the graduating BTech students. The Director Gold Medal was presented to Subham Subhasis Sahoo of computer science and engineering.
The Institute Silver Medal for obtaining the highest CGPA amongst the students of MTech in artificial intelligence was awarded to Rajtilak Pal. The medal in biomedical engineering went to Sayantani Ghosh, chemical engineering to Mayank Chopra, civil engineering to Matha Suresh Kumar, computer science and engineering to Sachin Patel, electrical engineering to Aman Hari Kumar, mechanical engineering to Aviral Mishra and BTech- MTech dual degree in mechanical engineering to Harsh Gupta.
The Institute Silver Medal for obtaining the highest CGPA amongst students of MSc in chemistry was awarded to Gayathri Hariprasad P, mathematics to Hitesh Kumar and physics to Rupanjali.
The Institute Silver Medal for obtaining the highest CGPA amongst students of BTech in civil engineering was awarded to Sarthak Vats, Kirti Sharma (chemical engineering), Aman Saini (electrical engineering), Archit Sood (mathematics and computing), Himanshu Bansal (mechanical engineering) and Aviral (metallurgical and materials engineering).
Prof Ahuja presented the annual report and congratulated the students, faculty and staff for their contributions. He reminded the audience that the IIT-Ropar was ranked 22nd in the engineering category and 33rd in the overall category by the NIRF last year. The institute entered the research ranking for the first time and was ranked 46th in the research quantum. Placement Cell witnessed 162 companies on the campus with 73% of undergraduate students placed at an average package of Rs 23 lakh.
