50 traffic marshals roped in to tackle wedding season rush
The Mohali police have launched a community policing campaign by roping in 50 traffic marshals and stationing them near marriage palaces and toll plazas on the busy Chandigarh-Ambala national highway in the Zirakpur, Dera Bassi, and Lalru areas to tackle the problem of traffic jams during the festival and wedding season.
Mohali SSP Deepak Pareek said, “Due to the closure of the Shambhu barrier, the traffic on this stretch has increased manifold. Passengers are facing delays and inconvenience. The drive is aimed at solving the growing traffic problem during the busy season of festivals and weddings and streamlining emergency and defence services. Marshals have been deputed near marriage palaces and toll plazas. “
Ten marshals have been posted near the toll plaza in Lehli to assist the traffic police. Along with this, CCTV cameras have been installed at various important places for the safety of people. Efforts are being made to solve people’s problems by holding meetings with resident welfare association committees of societies.
