The five were today produced in a court, which remanded them in five-day police custody. The police were likely to solve some other cases.

The DCP said Ishtaq Khan, a resident of Narayangarh, in a complaint to the Raipur Rani police had claimed he, as the flying in-charge of Shree Balaji Mines, was looking after mining operations at Mandalay village. On May 6 afternoon, four suspects came in a car to his office, where one of his employees, Iqbal, was present and the suspects enquired about Ishtaq before leaving.

Around 4 pm, he got a call on the mobile phone and was told they would ply vehicles with mined material without paying royalty. On refusing to meet their demand, the accused threatened to shoot him claiming to be members of the Bhupi Rana gang. The next day, he again got a similar call.

Around 2.30 pm, a Scorpio car arrived at the check post of Shree Balaji Mines at Mandalay village. On being stopped, the accused allegedly beat up the staff. One of the suspects pulled out a pistol and threatened to kill them. Later, Ishtaq again got a call asking him to agree to their demand or face dire consequences.

The DCP said on May 13, Ravi Saini and Ajay Kumar, alias Moni, were arrested in connection with the case and were currently lodged in the Ambala jail.
