44 provisional licences for sale of firecrackers allotted in Mohali dist

The committee constituted to issue provisional licences at District Administrative Complex, Mohali, today held a draw and issued 44 provisional licences for sale of crackers in the district. The draw was recorded in the presence of Additional Deputy Commissioners (General), public, and Municipal Corporation officials.

The Punjab and Haryana High Court has given instructions to issue only 20 per cent of licences as compared to the number issued in 2016.

Officials said 1,611 applications were received for provisional licences, of which 1,600 were found eligible. For the allotted four licences, for Mohali and Banur, 50 applications were received. For Kharar, Kurali and Nayagaon, 21 were received, while 209 were received from Dera Bassi, Lalru and Zirakpur.

Only 13 places have been allotted for the sale of firecrackers in the district. Sale of crackers will not be allowed anywhere other than these places.

According to the administration’s orders, on Diwali night (Oct 31), bursting of crackers will be allowed from 8pm to 10pm. On Nov 15 Gurpurab, bursting of crackers will be allowed from 4am to 5am and 9pm to 10pm. On Christmas (Dec 25-26), it will be allowed from 11:55pm to 12:30am and on New Year’s (Dec 31-Jan1) from 11:55pm to 12:30am.

Stalls for sale of firecrackers on Diwali will be allowed on October 29, 30 and 31 from 10 am to 7.30 pm and on November 15 from 10 am to 7.30 pm on the occasion of Gurpurab.
