3 arrested for snatching
Dera Bassi: The police have arrested three youths for a snatching in Dera Bassi reported on October 3. They have been identified as Amit Kumar, Sanjeev Kumar, alias Sonu; and Gaurav Kumar, alias Ravi. Amit broke his right wrist and Sanjeev his left ankle while trying to escape arrest. The three had snatched the purse of Ritu, a resident of Gulmohar City Extension, near the DAV school. The purse contained a mobile phone and ~30,000. TNS
Bank holds quiz competition
Chandigarh: Union bank of India is organising the ‘U-Genius 3.0’, a nation-wide general awareness, competition for students across 48 cities. As a part of the initiative a quiz competition was organised in Chandigarh that was attended by 800 students from 104 schools of Chandigarh, Mohali, Panchkula and nearby cities. The topics covered in the quiz were general knowledge and awareness and banking and finance. The competition aims at fostering the spirit of competitiveness and bring forth the talent among young minds of society. TNS

154 take part in race at Chhatbir
Zirakpur: ‘Run for the Wild’, an event dedicated to conserving wildlife, was organised at Chhatbir Zoo on the fourth day of the celebrations to mark Wildlife Week. Around 154 runners participated in the 5km and 10km races. Chief Wildlife Warden, Punjab, Dharminder Sharma was the chief guest at the event and he flagged-of the run with the zoo’s field director Neeraj Kumar. TNS
House collapses in Dhakoli
Zirakpur: A house in Krishna Enclave, Block-D, Dhakoli, crumbled on Saturday. Luckily, no one was injured in the incident. After the incident, area residents have been in a state of panic. House owner Deepa Chowdhary said the family had gone out when the house came down, but goods worth lakhs were destroyed. Chowdhary said there was a drain near the house due to which there was soil erosion underneath the foundation for three days which destabilised the house. Three nearby houses, too face the same problem, said locals. TNS
