Chandigarh: The UT police have nabbed two suspects almost a week after the motorcycle-borne youths hit a traffic cop in Sector 46 here. Constable Harsh Kumar, who was on duty on the road separating Sector 34 and 46 on September 24, had signalled a motorcyclist coming from the wrong side on a cycle track to stop. However, the suspects sped away after hitting the constable, following which a case of attempt to murder was registered at the Sector 34 police station. During investigation, the suspects, identified as Chirag, a resident of Sector 47, and Yuvraj, a resident of Burail village, Sector 45, were arrested. The police said Yuvraj was also booked on September 26 in a case registered at the Sector 34 police station for assaulting and outraging the modesty of a girl who had snapped ties with him. TNS

Prof Tomar is Dean Research

Chandigarh: Prof SK Tomar, from the Department of Mathematics, Panjab University, has been appointed as Dean Research. Tomar has 116 publications in the journals of international repute and has delivered more than 125 lectures in the country and abroad on the different topics of his research. He is a nominated member on the governing body of Guru Jambheshwar University, Hisar, and the Central University of Himachal Pradesh. TNS
