The Panchkula police today arrested two suspects involved in ATM frauds.
Addressing a press conference today, ACP (Crime) Arvind Kamboj said a team of Inspector Yogvindra Singh, in-charge of the Crime Branch, Sector 19, arrested two persons for withdrawing money from bank accounts of people by swapping their ATM cards.
A total of 33 ATM cards have been recovered from their possession. The suspects have been identified as Umesh Singh (34), a resident of Pratapgarh district, Uttar Pradesh, and presently residing in Indrapuri, Budh Nagar, JJ Colony, Delhi, and Kishna (24), also a resident of Pratapgarh district and presently residing at Kolambi Kalan, Delhi.
The police got a tip-off that two persons were roaming around ATMs in Sector 20, Panchkula, and trying to cheat people by swapping their ATM cards and withdrawing money from their bank accounts.
Acting on the tip-off, a police party arrested the suspects from a petrol pump near Sector 20, Panchkula. During search, the police recovered 20 ATM cards from Umesh and 13 from Kishna.
After thorough interrogation, the suspects revealed that they used to dupe people by swapping their cards at ATM booths.
A case has been registered against the suspects under Sections 318(4) and 61(2) of the BNS at Sector 20 police station here. Further investigations were on in this regard.
ACP (Crime) Arvind Kamboj said during investigation, it came to light that the suspects were involved in several ATM fraud cases in Ambala and Kurukshetra. They were today produced before a court, which sent them to judicial custody in Ambala.
